Solid start to season for Scottburgh golfer

Jason Gilliver has captained KZN over the past few years and looks a possibility to do so again this year.

The KZN Closed is one of the tournaments that golfers have to play in to be considered for the Interprovincial team.

The South African IPT will be played at Maccauvlei GC from April 13 to 17.

It meant that the cream of the crop teed it up over three rounds at Victoria Country Club, with Harry Clayton (Zimbali CC) the winner on -6, with scores of 68, 71 and 68.

Jason Gilliver (Scottburgh) had a slow start by his high standards with 73, following it up with 68 and 70.
He finished tied fourth on -2.

Jason has captained KZN over the past few years and looks a possibility to do so again this year.

However, he has started a new job and hasn’t been able to put in the kind of practice he would like, not that he has been known to over practice.

The rust showed in the first round and then when he found his swing, his putter went a bit cold.

Still, he was not unhappy with his finish, coming back strongly towards the end.

He would love to play the IPT, having had some decent experience of having played the course quite often.
“First I need to make the team, lot of good, young players coming through,” he laughed.

In terms of other Southern KZN golfers, Gavin Sole (Southbroom) was tied for seventh on even par, with rounds of 72, 69 and 72.

Cameron Olivant (Port Shepstone) was 12th on +5, with scores of 72, 76 and 70.

Jean-Marc Bouic (Southbroom) was 15th on +8, his rounds being super-steady 74, 74 and 73.

Jan McDermott (Umdoni Park) was 18th on +9, with rounds of 72, 76 and 74.

Junior golfer Revashan Naidoo (Umdoni Park) was a little further down in 32nd, with scores of 79, 75 and 77.
