190s serves up tennis fun
The next round is at Uvongo Tennis Club on Saturday, August 1.
Martyn Nagtegaal of Uvongo Tennis Club still very much has what it takes to win on the tennis court.
His love for the game remains undiminished and this much was evident at the recent Masters Super 6 Gauteng North in Groenkloof, Pretoria.
He won both the singles and doubles in his age group (65 to 70) in straight sets.
Martyn is the current number one in his age group in South Africa for both singles and doubles.
Meanwhile, Ian Ackerman has been selected to represent SA Masters at the World Champs in Crete, Greece in October this year.
He and his team are wished well on their tour.
On the local front, the Ugu Tennis Association 190s tournament got going in fine style at Umtentweni Tennis Club last Saturday.
In the A-section Salt and Twitters beat Dirt Trackers 44-31, while the Smash Masters beat Surf and Volley 38-28.
The various teams were as follows:
Salt & Twitters – Martyn Nagtegaal, Richard Short, Hanlie Nagtegaal and Sharon van der Schyff.
Dirt Trackers – Colin Barker, André Hofman, Cathy Kirton and Shauna Hudson.
Smash Masters – Daniel Francesconi, Brendan Els, Deanne Purtell-Massyn and Dunja Moreira.
Surf & Volley – David Rush, Herman Ehlers, Robyn Olivant and Jenny Senneck.
The B-section has two groups, namely the Springboks and the Proteas.
In the Springboks group Kiss My Ace beat Net Ninjas 45-31 and Baseline Bandits beat Racquet Scientists 39-34.
When it came to the Proteas group Aces & Laces beat Lord of the Strings 44-35. The Ball Boys had a bye.
The team were as follows:

Net Ninjas – Andrea Boffi, Pete Hind, Thobeka Dlongolo-Boffi and Sabrina Hind.
Aces & Laces – Mervyn Dalton, Nigel Wareing, Spelo Pakati and Ludo Tshefu.
Lord of the Strings – Gary Bartlett, Geyser Engelbrecht, Heloise Cloete and Liesl Cumming.
Baseline Bandits – Bernat Kruger, Nigel Vaughn, Luise Muhr and Maureen Kreusch.
Racquet Scientists – Hercue de Bruin, Gill de Bruin, Foxy Norton and Ken Coleman.

The fixtures will see Smash Masters vs Salt & Twitters, Dirt Trackers vs Surf & Volley, Baseline Bandits vs Kiss My Ace, Net Ninjas vs Racquet Scientists, Ball Boys vs Lord of the Strings.
