There has been something of a changing of the guard at Southbroom Golf Club with Gavin Sole, aka Big Fish, not winning either the strokeplay or the matchplay titles this year.
This run extends all the way back to 2012 – with the last two different champions in 2011 being David Rush (strokeplay) and Mike Anthony (matchplay).
It’s probably important to note that Gavin was injured that year and didn’t play!
Jason Ackerman, who lives upcountry but is no stranger to Southbroom of course, won the strokeplay on scores of 69 and 74, edging out Gavin who had 66 and 78.

Gavin had two bad holes – the 3rd and 9th – where he dropped seven shots, the rest was pretty much his usual solid fare.
Jason played well and was delighted with the win. Graham Sole was third, with scores of 70 and 76.
A week later, Graham would oust his famous father 2/1 in the semi-finals of the matchplay and then go on to beat Mike Algie 2-up in the final, finishing in style with an eagle.
In the B division, Ross McKay did the double, both times at the expense of Werner Duggan.
Ross scored 85 and 82 to win the strokeplay by one from Werner, who had 87 and 81.
Andre Attfield was third on 91 and 82. In the matchplay Ross beat Werner 4/3.

C-division honours went to Paul Dowdle on 70 points, with Simon Shusha runner-up on 60 points, counting out Gerald Fitzgerald and Wally Robinson.
Ladies’ silver division was won by Linndsay Owen on 87 and 83 from Michelle van der Hoek on 86 and 90.
Heather Anderson was third on 90 on 91.
Bronze division was won by Louise Leal on 91 and 95, with Irene Schanda next on 91 and 98 and Precious Solgevik on 91 and 101.
Stableford winner was Alta Kriegler on 70 points, with Alexandra Huber on 65 points and Ann Sophi Santos on 62 points.
