KINGFISHER
The 2026 KBA mixed pairs finals came to life at Munster BC, showcasing the thrilling culmination of a fiercely competitive tournament.
The semi-finals were intense battles, with Bob Corringham and Desairee Maartens from The Bell emerging victorious over Johan du Preez and Jeanne Gregori from Margate.
Glenn Hatfield and Eileen Burt of Southbroom overcame Hillary Holmes and Len Brickhill from AMBC.
The final match was an electrifying display of skill and resilience, with both teams pushing each other to new heights.
In a nail-biting finish, Bob and Desairee clinched victory with a two-point win on the last end after being peeled on 12.
Well done to all who made it to the final day of this challenging tournament.
Special applause to Bob and Desairee who will represent the KBA at the Bowls SA Mixed Pairs in August.
SOUTHBROOM
Log leaders Walking on Water extended their lead after round four of the Hibiscus Brokers SuperTrips which was played at five venues on April 30.
The hugely popular, year-long tournament is contested by 60 teams; each round is played in a strength-versus-strength format.
Each game of 18 ends comprises three skins, and every member of the team must play one skin each as lead, second and skip.
The five sets of winners were as follows.
Southbroom: The Drifters – Cheryl Thompson, Mike Thompson and Penny Weddell.
Margate: The Lambazi Lurkers – Pam Nothard, Dave Nothard and Ron Weddell.
Riverside: The Bravehearts – Mervyn Barratt, Trevor Haywood and Louis Heystek.
Banners Rest: Walking on Water – Cleve Walker, Julie Walker and Tony Waters.
Munster: The X Factor – Ken Tonge, Yvonne Bausek and Steve Blundell.
HIBBERDENE
The nominated mixed trips, sponsored by Re/Max Coast and Country, was won by Alex Bukes, Neil Patterson and Elize Duvenage.
Runners-up were Lorriane van Jaarsveld, Maureen du Toit and Anibal Menezes.
Session went to Albert Munnik, Alida Munnik and Jynie Swanepoel.
The club extended thanks to Pat Symcox and Re/Max management for re-instating their much appreciated sponsorship. It is highly appreciated by all members of the club.
This is almost a lifeline to the club as to be able to generate more funds since the municipality is in the process of a 300% increase in lease payments on top of the increasing cost of running and maintaining the club.
TWENI
The Tweni Pharmacy men’s pairs was won by Steve O’Moore and Cedric Miles.
Runners-up were Albert Munnik and Bez Bezuidenhout. Session prize went to Dick Eltringham and Don Russouw.
The 3rd Avenue/Meat Joint mixed fours on April 20 was won by Mari Strauss, Dumi Madlala, Dot Ellison and Siva Govender.
Runners-up were Michael van de Merwe, Frank Ellison, Allan Wilkins and Aletta Bennette.
Session prize went to Albert Munnik, Alida Munnik, Bubbles Bezuidenhot and Bez Bezuidenhout.
