Boxers shine at Battle at the Coast
Boxing supporters can look forward to more action when another tournament takes place at the Action Sports Arena in Shelly Beach on May 30.
Box360 Movement fighters delivered an impressive performance at the Battle at the Coast boxing tournament held at Wild Coast Sun on May 9, with several local boxers walking away victorious after a night of intense action in the ring.
Coach Roland van Rooyen said he was proud of the fighters for the commitment and discipline they showed leading up to the event.
“I’m a proud coach tonight. Discipline when you’re tired. Sacrifice when nobody sees it. That’s what builds great fighters,” he said.
Jordan Peace continued his strong start to professional boxing after stopping his opponent, Cyril Mulweli from Limpopo, in the second round by technical knockout.
The victory means Peace now holds a professional record of two fights, two wins, and two knockouts.
“I’m thrilled to walk away with the victory after my second professional fight, 2-0 with two knockouts. All the hard work paid off, and it feels great,” said Peace.
“Thank you to my coach, thank you to my team at Box360, thank you to my family and thank you to my sponsors for all the support. Onto the next.”
Another standout bout of the evening saw Jessica Pretorius from Box360 Movement defeat Kimaya Govender from The Box Gym in Shelly Beach in an amateur bantamweight contest.
Pretorius described the event as a memorable experience and praised the support from her coaches and teammates.
“It was an unforgettable evening, an incredible experience, and I feel honoured to have been part of it. Always a privilege to step into the ring with another woman, ready to battle it out. Massive respect all round,” she said.
“I’m also grateful for the coaches who supported and guided me every step of the way. Box360 truly makes a powerhouse team.”
Another impressive performance came from 16-year-old Thabang (Sbu) Molope, who boxed skillfully over three rounds to secure a win on points.
The young fighter showed composure and determination throughout the bout, earning praise for his technical ability in the ring.
Boxing supporters can look forward to more action when another tournament takes place at the Action Sports Arena in Shelly Beach on May 30.
Legendary former world champion Brian Mitchell is expected to attend the event and will auction some of his memorabilia during the evening.
