New challenges for 100-Miler in Umdoni

The Umdoni 100-Miler and 50-Miler offer a true looped ultra experience in the heart of Umdoni Park.

With the highly anticipated Umdoni 100-Miler set for August 1 and 2, a recce through the forests, gorges, beaches and technical singletrack of Umdoni last week, led to the introduction of two new distance options for race weekend.

Trail 27 Challenge: Two laps of the iconic Umdoni loop. There is more climbing, more forest and more adventure – the perfect next step for runners wanting to go beyond traditional trail distances.

Ultra 52 Challenge: Four laps of the Umdoni loop and the ideal bridge between marathon racing and ultra-running. A true endurance test on one of the most unique coastal trail routes around.

Organisers stated that Umdoni is tough, technical, scenic and unforgettable, and these new distances are only the beginning.

Every step of the way promises a new experience.

There is also a pacer update for the event. Pacers may join runners after lap 3 for the 50 miler and after lap 6 for the 100 miler. Pacers must complete at least one full section between aid stations before swapping. Pacer registration is now officially open!

Take note, all pacers must complete the registration form and indicate which runner they’ll be supporting.

About the event:
The Umdoni 100-Miler and 50-Miler offer a true looped ultra experience in the heart of Umdoni Park. Both events run on a purpose-built 13.4km circuit that blends flowing singletrack through indigenous coastal forest with open fairways, dune paths, beachside stretches and elevated viewing decks – all with the ocean never far from reach.

Expect a constantly changing rhythm underfoot as the route moves from shaded forest trails to open coastal sections, with stair climbs, panoramic viewpoints and fresh sea air adding to the challenge and charm of every loop.

This event is hosted in partnership with the local trail custodians, the Thirsty Thursday Trail Group. A portion of every entry goes directly back into the ongoing development and upkeep of this special trail network, so every step you take helps keep these trails world-class.

The organisers are excited to welcome even more runners, pacers and supporters to experience what makes Umdoni so special.
