Scottburgh runners gear up for Comrades

Some 19 local runners are taking part.

Scottburgh Athletics Club members enjoyed a pre-Comrades breakfast at the golf club on June 7.

It was a time to reflect on all the training and preparation, and encourage one another ahead of the big race this Sunday.

Qualifying runners in this year’s ‘Up Run’ will set off at cock’s crow from Durban on the gruelling 85.7km ultramarathon, finishing in Pietermaritzburg with a 12-hour cut off time.

From start to finish, the route takes runners through an elevation gain of some 1.8km.
A total of 24 000 runners are expected to participate, including around 2 500 international runners from more than 80 countries.

The Scottburgh AC runners taking part are: Peter Booysen, Dina Fontana Buys, Siyabonga Howard Cele, Syakhula Prosper Cele, Zanele Dlungwana, Brian Flascas, David Gibson, Sthembile Jeza, Njabulo Langa, Bianca Miller, Kirsty Moriarty, Musa Ntaka, Nkosi Ntuli, Thokozani Nzimande, Ricky Pillay, Kelly Saint, Danielle Turner, Jacques Vries and Lungelo Zama.
