Parkrun movement continues to grow on the KZN South Coast

It is a free initiative that takes place every Saturday morning and encourages people to enjoy regular physical activity in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The KZN South Coast’s parkrun community continues to go from strength to strength, and residents are encouraged to lace up their shoes and experience the benefits of the free weekly events.

Beaver Creek parkrun near Port Edward, the newest addition to the South Coast parkrun family, has already completed eight successful events since its launch.

Residents and visitors gather every Saturday at 08:00 for the timed 5km event, which welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and fitness levels.

Organisers recently thanked the community for its ongoing support, saying the event’s success is built on the enthusiasm of volunteers, participants and supporters who return week after week.

“Whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come along to cheer others on, everyone is welcome,” said the Beaver Creek parkrun team.

The South Coast is home to four parkruns, giving residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to get active. These include Beaver Creek parkrun, Uvongo parkrun, East Coast Brewery parkrun (in Umkomaas) and Amanzimtoti parkrun.

Parkrun is a free, community-based initiative that takes place every Saturday morning and encourages people to enjoy regular physical activity in a supportive and inclusive environment. There are no age restrictions, and everyone is encouraged to complete the course at their own pace.

Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the events run smoothly each week. From timekeeping and barcode scanning to marshalling and tail walking, volunteer roles require no previous experience and provide another way for community members to get involved.

The Beaver Creek team is currently appealing for more volunteers to assist with future events.
