Farmers ‘rain’ over Townies at golf day in Port Shepstone
There was a great atmosphere on and off the golf course.
Rain usually makes farmers happy, and it proved to be a winning ingredient in their success in the Farmers vs Townies golf day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Saturday.
There was some agricultural stuff out there for sure, with chunks of fairway being removed by wedges and whatnot.
And then there was some classy golf too, provided mostly by Cameron Olivant and two fellow juniors in Blake Longhurst and Daniel Davies.
They had the lowest scramble alliance score on the day of nett 53,17 to edge in ahead of Mike King, Gareth Olivant, Neil Thomas and Brett Longhurst on 53,87.
Third spot went to Stuart Ramseyer, Andre Barnard, Matt Ewart and Megan Ewart on 55.
Overall, the Farmers’ team won on an average of 58,30 to the Townies’ team score of 59,58.
Nearest the pins were Allan Clark (5th) and Neil Thomas (14th).
Thanks were extended to the Garrun Group and Kevin Manthey for this fantastic day.
Morris Moodley and Doc Bux won the previous Wednesday’s competition on 46 points, counting out Terry Kotze and Ian Mitchell.
In third place were Rob Vogt and Bruce Holmes on 44 points.
The Makmoer Business Day last Friday was won by Sheldon van der Merwe, Tom Pearson, Guy Osborne and Greg Small on 94 points.
Runners-up on 88 points were Bryan Lind, Jane Lind, Dick Cotterell and Natasha Cotterell.
They counted out Fanie van der Merwe, Japie Myburgh, Martin Pieteren and a ghost partner.
