Andrew Mkhize clinches caddy champs at Margate
It's an event that is eagerly anticipated each year.
Fifty-five players battled the elements, taking on blustery winds and rainy conditions, in an attempt to win the annual Caddy Champs.
Now in its fifth year, it was presented by the South Coast Region Ladies’ Golf Association (SCRLGA) and held at Margate Country Club.
The winner was Andrew Mkhize from San Lameer Country Club. He played off a 5.9 handicap index and won on a score of 77.
The nett was won by Philani Danca from Margate on 71.
The various clubs ensured their caddies are registered on HNA and of the 55 players, 49 had official handicaps, ensuring they could qualify for gross and nett prizes.
The tournament is bigger than being a local event.
Rather, GolfRSA has partnered with the KZN Ladies’ Golf Association and five regional qualifying 18-hole tournaments are held.
The winner from each region progresses to play at the KZN Champion of Champions held at Kloof in September.
The caddies making it through to the Kloof finals have all their travel, accommodation and food paid for by GolfRSA.
The winner of this round will enjoy an all expenses paid trip to compete at the national final in October.
Margate Country Club was thanked for waivering the green fees for the day.

SCRLGA supplied snacks and lunch after the game. They also donated prizes for the day and provided moral support to the players.
Special thanks were extended to esteemed rules officials Karen Olivant and Jane Lind.
Others who helped on the day included Mercia Goldswain (Margate) and Roger and Heleen Hissey from San Lameer.
President Sandi Burger was delighted with the outcome of the tournament.
“We are very blessed to see our golfing community come together to make this event a huge success. We look forward to more players joining and hosting the tournament again next year,” she said.
