Disappointing audit for Ugu

OVER the past few years we have seen the Ugu District Municipality sink deeper and deeper into a financial abyss.

The Auditor-General gave the municipality a qualified (disappointing) report with a disclaimer and said there was doubt about the municipality’s ability to continue operating as an entity.

Municipal manager ‘DD’ Naidoo says the municipality is working hard on a turnaround strategy.

However, there is no clarity on how the municipality is going to collect the millions owed to it by consumers.

It is time for the truth – the once shining district municipality has been dragged into the gutter and those who are responsible need to be held accountable.
