RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK – August 29, 2014
THE Lobster Pot restaurant in Ramsgate is more than just a very popular eatery, in fact it has become something of an iconic landmark, too.
Established nearly 50 years ago, it has stood the test of time on the South Coast.
Trevor and Jean Marnewick bought the Lobster Pot more than 20 years ago and have continued its legacy.
Warm, cosy and inviting, it is well-known for its delicious seafood at reasonable prices.
With the excellent service provided by the friendly staff, and quality food cooked by chef Sebastian Mendu, it’s no wonder locals and visitors return time and again.
Sebastian is nothing short of an institution, having handled matters in the kitchen for 36 years.
He has mastered the numerous dishes, ensuring they are wonderfully flavoured to satisfy diners’ tastes.
The Lobster Pot has a diverse menu, with something for everyone, including chicken, steak, ribs, pasta and vegetarian dishes, plus a spicy curry or two.
A popular starter is the fresh asparagus, served hot and smothered in a garlic and cheese sauce.
A must for mains is the lobster thermidor, mixed in a cream, mushroom and brandy sauce.
Or try the lobster platter, which comprises baby lobster, large prawns, linefish, calamari and mussels, served with either a lemon butter, garlic butter or peri-peri sauce.
Decadent desserts and speciality coffees ensure that those with a sweet tooth are well taken care of.
Spoil yourself on a Sunday and enjoy the four-course meal for only R75 per person.
Recently, a three-course weekday lunch for just R55 has been introduced.
