Art lovers support exhibition

Guests enjoyed wine while they admired the artwork.

THE seventh annual Spring Wine Festival started off with an art exhibition at Riverbend Art and Wine Gallery in Southbroom last Thursday.

Many artists and art lovers admired Bob McKenzie’s ‘The Factor of Light’ work of art.

Mr McKenzie has mastered the art of painting in oils and an array of his truly magnificent work adorns the walls of many homes in South Africa and abroad.

His greatest influence was from Dino Paravano, the great Italian artist who lived in South Africa and now lives in the United States of America.

Mr Mckenzie finds himself selecting subjects based more on the quality of light than the subject itself. He has travelled extensively and has a real connection to Africa.

He said he needs to smell the dust, as it were, to be able to contribute that extra dimension that will hopefully be the soul of the work, separating it from a purely mechanical reproduction of someone else’s experience.

His unique ability to capture the essence of a typical African image with the exceptional use of form and most importantly light are what make his images so appealing.

“My inspiration always comes from my last painting whether ordinary or exceptional, to improve or to be inspired,” he said.

“It’s good to know that there is no destination in painting, only the journey,” he concluded.
