MM is going nowhere

Stunt or not - the state of the Umbango River is not a new issue.

FAECAL contamination of the Umbango River landed in the police charge office.

The DA laid criminal charges against the Ugu District Municipality’s municipal manager Dhanpalan `DD’ Naidoo for allegedly failing to comply with a temporary restriction on the use of the water.

Samples of the river showed high levels of E.coli and dead fish were discovered.

But the MM came out fighting and dismissed the charges claiming that they were just a publicity stunt pulled by a political party.

Stunt or not – the state of the Umbango River is not a new issue.

Living with the stench emanating from the river has become untenable for the residents at the Mbango Valley Retirement Village.

Cooking oil has been blamed for the latest sewage spill. Apparently it fermented and caused the unbearable smell.

We can only hope that the measures which have put in place are adequate.
