KwaZulu-Natal’s Gambling and Betting Board members were suspended by the provincial MEC for Finance, Belinda Scott.
The KZN government can expect stiff resistance to the urgent application brought to overturn the licences that were granted to bingo hall operators.
An interdict was sought in the Pietermaritzburg High Court last Friday after some board members had met secretly and granted the licences.
The board, its members and the bingo operators were given until Tuesday this week to oppose the matter.
It is due to be heard in court today (Thursday).
