Bingo bashed

Real criminals literally get away with murder while old people are threatened with arrest for playing bingo.

EVERY week headlines on the South Coast scream, `Murder, Rape, Robbery.’

Cable theft is rife in the area, illegal shebeens are springing up in suburbs, backstreet abortionists can freely advertise in our towns and errant motorists terrorise other road users on a daily basis.

And what do the powers that be do – they clamp down on social bingo.

Throughout the South Coast social groups, sports clubs, retirement homes and even churches run regular bingo bashes.

This week the KwaZulu-Natal Gambling Board called a halt to bingo.

Could this clampdown be because the players are mostly law-abiding elderly folk who are perceived as soft targets?
