Hell for locals

Is anyone listening?

STREETS of fear.

That is how many terrified homeowners who reside in and around Margate’s central business district and beachfront have described their area.

Last week the Herald carried a report about a neighbourhood that has been turned into a battleground.

Desperate residents living along Homestead, Collingwood, Erasmus and Churchill roads turned to the newspaper for help as their pleas to the police and municipality to curtail the drunken parties on their doorstep have fallen on deaf ears.

They also lament that a once tranquil park in the area has been turned into a haven for vagrants, prostitutes and drug dealers.

Millions have been spent on improving Margate’s beachfront in the hope that it will attract tourists who in turn will provide a much-needed boost to the economy.

Now the whale deck along Panorama Parade has been trashed by drunk yobs.

Locals say they are scared by wild partying that goes on every weekend.

Is anyone out there listening?
