Editor's note

It’s a Catch 22

Journalists have been accused of having a political agenda.

EACH week the Herald is bombarded with letters, phone calls, smses and visits from South Coasters, who ask for assistance with their problems.

These are either with local authorities, the police and traffic departments, service providers, schools and business. They (the complainants) usually all tell the same story – that they have tried every which way to get answers but none are received.

A newspaper should always be the last resort and once all avenues of communication have been exhausted will we take up the cudgels.

Not an easy task.

This week we followed up on complaints about the lifeguards’ amenities and equipment at local beaches.

Instead of responding to the questions raised our journalists have been accused by Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s spokesman of having a political agenda.

Not so Simon April.

We are just doing our job.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
