Over the next week new councillors will be inaugurated at the municipalities that make up the Ugu District.

The results of the recent local government elections showed that rate and taxpayers are going to demand that councillors and municipal officials are held accountable and that they take full responsibility for their actions.

No more cosy deals or tenders being given to companies without the resources or equipment to undertake the work.

No more arrogance. Remember if you are employed in local government you are a civil servant – with emphasis on the word civil.

And please uphold the by-laws.
