CONSUMERS who have had water interruptions or shutdowns may be paying for air.

When there is a build-up of air in the pipes it will be pushed out once the supply is restored.

Air moving through water can advance the reading faster than the water does.

At an Ugu press briefing on Wednesday this week, municipal manager, `DD’ Naidoo said he would issue an immediate instruction to investigate the possibility that this could happen at homes.

South Coast consumers who have noticed that their water bills have increased after an outage, should contact the municipality.

A dedicated customer service person has been appointed to the municipal manager’s office as a back-up for the call centre which fields about 800 calls per day.

Mr Naidoo admitted there were shortcomings but pleaded with customers and staff to work together.

Let’s all try.
