Think you know your fruits from your veggies? Some of these might surprise you
So what is the difference between fruit and vegetables?
WE all like to think we know our apples from our artichokes, but how many of the items of fresh produce listed below did you know are actually fruits and not vegetables? And be honest now…

- Tomato
- Cucumber
- Courgette
- Avocado (and no, it’s not a pear)
- Peppers
- Pumpkin
- Butternut
- Olives
- Brinjal
- Peas

So what is the difference between fruit and vegetables?
According to the TodayIFoundOut website, botanically-speaking, if it is from a plant and has seeds (or would have seeds if it wasn’t genetically engineered or cultivated to not have them, as with things like seedless grapes), it is a fruit; if it doesn’t, it is a vegetable.
