Flowers can be the language of love - or hate!

IN Victorian times, the sending and receiving of flowers often conveyed special messages between the parties.

For instance, according to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition website, while sending a red rose signified love, a dark red bloom may be interpreted to imply shame, and sending a very light red flower could mean the sender wished to keep the love secret.

Flowers were also used to insult – an orange lily meant hatred.
