Following a 1976 show, Bowie and Iggy were arrested together for marijuana possession in Rochester, New York, although charges were later dropped.

Pop stars David Bowie and Iggy Pop were arrested in a hotel room in Rochester, Massachusetts on marijuana charges, but were later released on bail of $2 000 each.

Sexually ambitious mega-star Bowie had just commenced the US leg of a world tour. He had long been an admirer of Iggy Pop (Iggy is short for iguana), but nine months before Pop had suddenly vanished – to a psychiatric ward for drug rehabilitation. Bowie was his only visitor, which was not the ideal choice of company for a drug addict trying to come down to earth when Bowie reckoned he ‘came from the stars’.

Bowie and Iggy relocated to West Berlin to wean themselves off their respective drug addictions. “Living in a Berlin apartment with Bowie and his friends was interesting…” Iggy recalled. “The big event of the week was Thursday night. Anyone who was still alive and able to crawl to the sofa would watch Starsky & Hutch.”
