April 20: On This Day in World History … briefly

The Irish author, best known today for his 1897 Gothic novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as personal assistant for actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned.

1912:  Creator of ‘Count Dracula’ horror stories dies

Dublin-born writer Bram (short for Abraham) Stoker died at his home in London aged 65.

His greatest success as an author was ‘Count Dracula’, but he was also a journalist, a student of mathematics and philosophy, an accomplished athlete, a civil servant and the touring manager and secretary for actor Henry Irving.
