1959: Angler lands more than he bargains for
Alf Dean, an avid fisherman, could literally not believe his eyes when he landed a mammoth ‘man-eating’ great white shark at Denial Bay, near Ceduna in South Australia.

Dean’s incredible catch weighed in at 2 664lb (1 208kg) and measured 16ft 10″ (5.13m) – the largest shark to be caught on a rod.
