Despite a wobbly start, Port Shepstone Country Club soon dominated the day to win the Southern KZN 30 Over Cup final.
They took on Legends CC at the country club last Sunday and beat them by 121 runs.
Legends put Sheppie in to bat first and soon had them in trouble with the two openers out for ducks.
This brought Jayden Scholtz and Ashley Lombard to the wicket and they duly set out amassing the runs, Jayden with finesse (60 off 53) and Ashley with something akin to fury (67 off 30).
This set the platform for Morné Bishop, in at number five, to launch – and launch he did, with 71 not out off 54 balls.
He was aided by his cousin Garreth, with a handy 21 not out batting at number nine.
In the absence of Abdullah Dhudhat, Legends struggled a bit with the ball and the bowlers took an uncharacteristic pasting.
In response with the bat, there were moments when Zakir Meitar (51 off 51) looked dangerous, but the task was too tall and the support lacking.
This was made even more difficult by some lively bowling from speedsters Cody Mortimer and Uminathi Mdleko, before the spinners wrapped things up by dismissing the middle and lower order.
One of the highlights of the day was arguably Mortimer’s run out – first a diving misfield, off his chest, arm and chin – before he collected the ball and knocked over the stumps with a direct hit, with Meitar well short.
