Harvest festival abundance shared in community

Early on Monday morning the team gathered once more to make up hampers.

A MOST stunning arrangement of fruit, vegetables, flowers and other items representing a harvest, adorned the sanctuary at Athlone Park Methodist Church on Sunday, 18 August, as worshippers observed the annual ‘Harvest Festival Service.’

Old faithful Joy Klopper and her team worked tirelessly once again for three full days prior, beautifully arranging the various items that were generously brought in by congregants.

Early on Monday morning the team gathered once more to make up hampers and deliver to the following recipients: Ethelbert Children’s Home, certain residents at Poinsettia Park Retirement Village, two local Methodist Orphan Care Projects and the dozen families on the church’s outreach programme.

In his address, resident minister Rev Emmanuel Gabriel spoke of Joseph in Egypt (Genesis 41), pointing out that the famine in Egypt reminds us that all harvests are vulnerable, thus we are cautioned in our use and consumption, but also to care for those who do not have basic foods.
