Floodlight plan mooted for promenade

Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism (SCTT) is on a drive to have the Toti promenade floodlit.

The idea is to place floodlights on adjacent buildings’ roofs.

“The promenade is a magnificent public space that other areas wish they had,” said SCTT chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk. “It has the potential to be well used by residents and visitors to the area. It could be a fantastic facility for early morning strolls or late night romantic walks.

Our blocks of flats along Beach Road should be prime real estate as they have amazing views, a promenade and beautiful beaches.

Floodlighting the beach isn’t going to sort out the crime issues, but it’s one more positive influence in sorting out our problems. If these floodlights just prevent one mugging, rapping or murder, then it’s worth every cent.”

SCTT will purchase the floodlights and do a joint venture with blocks of flats along the promenade that are willing to foot the electricity bill each month.

“We are pleased Happy Days, Ezulweni and Strandberg flats are in support and we appeal to other blocks that are willing to contact us urgently on chairman@totitourism.co.za.

As the environment is important to us, energy-saving is a priority and there will be timers on the floodlights and energy-efficient bulbs.” The floodlights will be on until 11pm every night.

“This is another positive change we are implementing along with the painting of bridges, keeping our area clean and continuing with our campaign to making a difference and being Proudly Toti,” said Jacques.
