“The suspect (37) was wanted for house robbery, housebreaking and theft by false pretences. These cases were reported at Berea, Sydenham and Isipingo police stations. He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 January,” said Capt Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre.
In one of the incidents which occurred on 3 December at about 6.30pm, a man and a woman were approached by three armed men at their home in Chancellor Avenue in Mayville. At gunpoint the men allegedly demanded cash and jewellery from the couple. They took jewellery, a laptop, cellphone, TV set and cash before they fled in the complainant’s BMW. A case of house robbery was opened at Mayville police station.
In another case of theft by false pretences that was opened at Berea police station, it is alleged the victim deposited R645,000 into the suspect’s account on different dates for a business for sale.
Provincial commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni is delighted with the arrest. “Members will work around the clock to link him to other house robbery cases reported in the greater Durban area.” She encouraged the community to work together with police in the fight against crime by reporting criminal activities.
