Conservation dream comes to fruition
AT a time when many matriculants are considering and plotting their career paths, Athlone Park's Courtney Dalziel is living her dream of working in conservation.
The 23-year-old is heading off to Sabi Sabi Game Reserve on a two-year contract later this week.
In 2012, Courtney completed a degree in animal science at the University of Reading in the UK, where she was the top student in a class of 19.
To gain field experience Courtney completed a field guiding course at various reserves around the country and in Botswana in 2013, where she was yet again top of the class, scooping joint first place.
At Sabi Sabi, she will be one of only two women guides employed at the reserve.
“I have always wanted to go into conservation. What's not to love about the outdoors? It's my passion and at the same time I get to meet interesting people.”
Courtney wants to continue with her studies with a Masters degree in animal behaviour, followed-up with a PhD and eventually go into lecturing students.
