1,000 shoeboxes bring festive cheer for rural children

A CENTRE That Serves (ACTS), a non-profit organisation which has partnered with existing community projects in the rural areas hosted a Christmas party for children at five projects in December.

“ACTS handed out more than1,000 shoeboxes filled with clothes, toiletries, stationery, sweets and toys which were donated to ACTS by Santa Shoe Box and other individuals. We also received boxes of chips and juice which the staff of Sapref donated for the children to enjoy while receiving their gifts,” said the organisation's Benjamin Machikiche.

The children who attended the party were from mostly poverty-stricken homes and some have been orphaned. “For some of the children it was their first Christmas party where they received a gift. It was wonderful to see the joy and appreciation on their faces.”

This is the fifth year that ACTS has been able to spoil these precious children during the Christmas period.
