Excavation timing critised in Beach Rd

A Toti resident has questioned why municipal workers dug an excavation in front of Brigadoon flats on Beach Road in Amanzimtoti just before they went on break in the middle of December.

In the process they left the sand from the excavation piled on the pavement, so residents have to walk on the road to get to shops, putting them in danger from speeding motor vehicles.

“Why was the excavation dug just before workers went on break in the middle of December and left open for the whole of the festive season?” asked Leonard Excell, a resident of Brigadoon flats. It makes it dangerous for residents, many of them elderly, to negiotate their way to the shops and return, often carrying groceries.

Vehicles speed along Beach Road and many don’t stop at the stop street on the corner of Link Road and Beach Road, making this a very dangerous situation.”

Municipal workers returned to work in the vicinity on Friday, 10 January and filled in the hole. Enquires to the municipal on why the hole was dug were not answered.
