Fire guts isipingo factory – UPDATE – VIDEO
Smoke filled the sky in Isipingo on Wednesday, 22 January as Toti firemen were called out to douse a fire which ignited at an Isipingo factory.
The building that was burnt belongs to long standing clients of ours and we did a site inspection the day after the fire and the damage was mind boggling. The buildings walls buckled and the roof collapsed. The amazing part was that it took just 4 minutes for the fire to spread thru the building and there was nothing anyone could do to contain the fire until the fire brigades arrived.
At about 2.30pm three fire engines were dispatched to Rana Road, Isipingo where two factories caught alight.
“When we arrived on the scene a fire was burning on the top of the first building closest to the road. There was a fire in front of the second building, as well as inside the building,” said division commander, Nelson Pillay.
Support was increased with a fourth fire engine as well as a hydraulic platform and water carriers. To stop the fire spreading to a third building, a fire curtain was put up. The fire was contained at about 4.30pm and damping the fire continued until 10pm.
“There were no causalities. Fire specialists are investigating the cause of the fire,” said Pillay.
