“I am not happy about the handling of the gate issue. I bought the unit because I was told I had unlimited beach access. I am a fisherman and a frequent beach user. I cut the lock because I wanted to use the beach,” he said.
Last week, resort owner and manager, Christa Joubert claimed that Maniram, including three policemen in uniform among a large group of people, allegedly stormed the premises on Friday, 17 Janauary, which resulted in a heated exchange between both parties.
Capt Maniram was until recently based at Toti police station for 11 years and is now stationed at the Durban Harbour.
“On the evening of the incident, police officers did attend to calm the situation. Before going to the resort, I went to Toti police station and left my firearm there. All I want is beach access, but to no avail. My son was also in the car, I would not go to war with him there.”
Maniram feels he is being victimised because he has opened a criminal case against Christa's mother. “It's all a cover up story to get back at me.”
He said if the gate was locked due to crime, ''who better to sort it out but me, as I would be a deterrent”.
“I want the problem solved. I have even approached my station commander and cluster office for a solution to the situation. It's going out of control, before it ends up being something big, I want it resolved.”
