Co-accused get 17 years for rape

TWO men received stiff sentences for a murder and rape, which occurred in Hull Valley, near Umkomaas in 2012, in the Scottburgh regional court on Tuesday, 4 February.

The men’s co-accused, Mkhanyisi Selby Nguse (25) is serving a 21-year prison sentence, after being convicted of rape in November 2012.

“Siyabonga Elvis Dube (30), Siyanda Mike Ndwandwe (30) and Nguse raped a 21-year-old woman on 17 March, 2012 from 9pm to 5.30am the next morning. Members of Umkomaas SAPS found the woman’s brutalised body at about 6.50am, near a pumphouse in Hull Valley. She had been strangled to death,” said Capt Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre.

The trio were arrested shortly after the gruesome discovery was made.

The court accepted Nguse’s plea of guilt and convicted him of rape on 9 November, 2012.

The trial of Dube and Ndwandwe continued and both were convicted of rape and each sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment this Tuesday. Ndwandwe was sentenced to a further 20 years’ imprisonment for murder. The rape and murder sentences will run concurrently.

The case was investigated by the Umkomaas SAPS detective service.
