City creates chief operations officer position for city manager

Chief Operations officer to be appointed to city manager's office.

AT a full council sitting on Wednesday, 19 March at Rotary Stadium in KwaMashu, council agreed to bolster capacity in the city manager, Sibusiso Sithole’s office with the creation of a post of a Chief Operations Officer (COO), who will run the day-to-day affairs of the office.

This will relieve Sithole to concentrate on more strategic roles.

Mayor James Nxumalo said the position will assist in making the city manager’s office more effective and efficient.

The COO will oversee the city manager’s office support services, Metro Police, performance monitoring and evaluation as well as legal services and compliance.
