The Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) is alarmed by the rapid increase of reported cases where wild animals are sold on road sides around the province.
One such case was Dayton, a baby grey duiker who was rescued from the clutches of a man attempting to sell him in Greytown recently. Dayton is currently housed in the intensive care enclosure with Delia, another grey duiker who was almost sold on the side of the road in Hluhluwe a few weeks ago. The pair is recovering well and will be transferred to an outdoor enclosure as soon as they are strong enough.
Anyone who sees animals being sold on the side of the road may call KZN wildlife on 033-845-1999.
