Patience sees Badenhorsts through 58 years together

They met when both worked at Transnet.

Piet and Monica Badenhorst of Warner Beach celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on 28 April.

They met at work when both worked at Transnet in Durban and married in 1956.

Piet moved to Durban in 1953 and Monica followed a year later from Germiston.

After their wedding in Durban, they held their reception in Doonside on Monica’s family farm before settling in the area.

They have three daughters, Marietjie, who lives in the UK, Anne-Marie, who is in Montclair, and Belinda, who recently moved to Madagascar.

They are blessed with seven grandchildren, Monique, Byron, Roxanne, Maxine, Ashley, Natalie-Anne and Brandon and four great grandchildren, Tyler, Tigan, Ryan and Erin.

“The secret to our long marriage is lots of patience, especially on my part,” said Monica.

“If you argue, make sure you settle it,” was the advice from Piet. “Never go to bed angry.”
