A paramedic was robbed and stabbed at an ATM in Alexandra, Johannesburg on Wednesday morning, 14 May.
Kgaugelo Moroamohwebedu (25), a paramedic with ER24, was withdrawing money to catch his taxi to work when two men climbed out of a BMW and approached him.
According to media reports, Moroamohwebedu reported the attackers approached him and said, “Boy, give us your money”.
“I didn’t realise they were robbing me because they were smiling, so I told them didn’t have money,” he said.
One of the men then got what looked like a 9mm pistol out of the car and threatened him.
The second man then broke a bottle he was carrying and tried to stab him in the face. The paramedic sustained four stab wounds on his arm while defending himself.
After giving the robbers his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money, they demanded he hand over his utility vest and “drugs” but Moroamohwebedu refused.
“They assumed I had medication such as morphine.” Police are investigating the incident.
