This comes after similar problems were experienced at the beginning of the week, which eThekwini ultimately said was caused by damage to its fibre cable network. City spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, said the issue is intermittent and affecting a limited number of electricity meters.

“Customers experiencing either of these challenges are urged to report the matter through the Electricity and Energy Directorate’s contact centre on 0803 11 11 11 for assistance. Alternatively, customers can report the issue through the directorate’s WhatsApp chatbot on 064 761 7930. Customers should select ‘Faults’ and then choose ‘Load Key Change Tokens’ when reporting the issue,” said Mzila.

He added that the City apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates customers’ patience and co-operation while investigations are underway.
