Two teams score full house in ABC’s mixed 2-4-2

In open singles Doreen Salmond defeated Noreen Butler.

A RARE occurrence happened during the mixed 2-4-2 at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) on 23 May.

Not just one, but two teams scored a full house during the same event. Well done to the teams of Pete Callaghan and Robyn Hutton; and Val de Kok and Trevor Dempsey.

Pete and Robyn were also the overall winners on a 4+30, while the runners-up were Coy Schrauwen and Bobby Stewart. First session prize went to Ian and Marion Crouch, while second session prize was won by Micky Roche and Liz Morgan-Davies. Noreen Butler got the drawn prize. The club's thanks go to long-standing sponsor Allan Hawkins for the prizes which make 'victory' sweeter.

Well done to both Denise Bingham and Marion Crouch who played a very intense game of handicap singles, being 'peels' four times during the game, with the lead changing hands each time, right up to the last end. Denise finally put down the last two shots to win the game.

In open singles Doreen Salmond defeated Noreen Butler; and Lyn Joubert lost to Julie Sutherland. Linda McGregor put up a good fight, but eventually lost her handicap game to Val de Kok. Pam Chalder-Royle won her game of senior singles against Heather Brown, while Bobby Stewart and Jennifer Greenslade won their nominated pairs against Gayle Windrim and Maggie Robertson. Gaythree Ramklass lost her novice singles to Tokkie de Kock.

In men's handicaps Neil Oberholzer had a real battle on his hands to win against Boet Els, and Adie Fuller was finally knocked out by Alf Bingham. In the men's senior singles section, Coy Schrauwen defeated Phil Perkins; Peter Snyman lost to Lofty van Tonder, and Ray Robinson beat Trevor Dempsey. Doug Joubert and Elsie Walker won their third round mixed pairs game against Neville Roscoe and Linda McGregor, as did Doreen Salmond and Eric Klopper against Ian Crouch and Barbara Beamson. In a fourth round game in the same section, John and Delysia Mitchley beat Coy Schrauwen and Nola Corrigall.

Winners of the women's trips were Denise Bingham, Charlotte Kohl and Lesley Priestley. Yvonne Wright, Stella Erasmus and Kathy Harding were the runners up, and the second session prize went to Doreen Salmond, Bobby Stewart and Adrianne Robbins. The spider was won by Val de Kok, with an amount of R132.80 being collected for the Khanya Hospice charity shop. The 100 board was won by Julie Sutherland.

In the men's mutton the team of Mervyn Conway, Andy McDonald, Alec Hoile and Ashley Allard came out on top, followed by Jerry Gertzen, Dave Kemp, Tony Cam and Peter Snyman. First session was won by Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Adie Fuller and Jeff van Belkum; and second session by Herbie Hofmann, Das Veldsman, Robbie Roberts and Shawn Sutherland. In the women's mutton the winners were Elsie Walker, Yvonne Wright, Maureen van der Poel and Jean Snyman; runners-up were Heather Brown, Leigh Callaghan, Maggie Robertson and Margaret van Belkum. First session was won by Pam Chalder-Royle, Nita Meumann, Val de Kok and Jackie Holdrick, and second session by Noreen Butler, Gayle Windrim, Michelle Pitchers and Gladys Hughes. Last, but not least, a big thank you to Toni Roberts for all the help she gives to the kitchen staff.

Congratulations to the team of 'Hobson's Choice' who were the winners at the monthly quiz night, and to the runners-up 'The CG's', and 'The Beer tasters' in third place. Unfortunately neither Barbara nor Scorgie, the reigning champ, could answer the individual question, so the big cash prize carries over to next month. Huge thanks to Greg and Gwynn McLeod for their hard work in organising this boisterous event. Lofty van Tonder was present to receive the TGIF attendance draw, and Denise Bingham won the 100 board, however, there were no other draws last Friday.

There is still space left for teams who wish to enter the women's winter tournament on 12 and 13 June, so get your forms from the club and enter this fun event with loads of prizes. Both the women's and men's league will be playing on Saturday, 31 May, and, as usual, make sure you check the notice board for any cardings. Finally, birthday greetings to Dean Hunter and Liz Morgan-Davies.
