Burglars behind bars thanks to CCPO

Community crime fighting organisation makes arrests in four separate crimes.

FOUR men were arrested by the CCPO for various crimes in separate incidents between Friday morning, 30 May and Monday evening, 2 June.

In the first incident on Friday morning, 30 May, CCPO’s Jason Hewitt received a report about three suspicious-looking men carrying bags, walking up Ndongeni Drive.

On locating them, their bags were searched and found to contain unopened alcohol. It was established they they had burgled premises in Ndongeni Drive. They were arrested and handed to Toti police.

In an unrelated incident on the same day, at about noon, the CCPO received a report of a theft of a cellphone near Old Main Road. Armed with a description of the thief’s clothing, CCPO’s Jason Hewitt found a man fitting the same description, near Old Main Road. His assistant, Hendrik arrested the man whose shoes and pants were wet, as he had fled into the river.

When he was taken to Toti SAPS, the complainant was opening a case. She also opened a case of attempted rape.

On Friday evening, speakers were stolen from a vehicle in Queens Terrace.

On Saturday morning, 31 May, a CCPO foot patrol guard noticed a known criminal in possession of speakers near Toti taxi rank. The man dropped the goods and fled, but was caught by the guard.

He was handed to Toti police.

In a fourth incident on Monday evening, 2 June, the CCPO received a call about a housebreaking in St Boniface Maze. After viewing CCTV footage, CCPO’s Leon Joone conducted patrols in the surrounding area for about an hour, before he spotted a man he had seen on the footage making his way towards a regular escape route.

When he stopped near a stairway near Milky Way to go through the goods, he was nabbed. He was in possession of a laptop, DSTV walka, Ipod and backpack.
