UPDATE: Divers die on Umkomaas beach
Despite all efforts to resuscitate a man and woman in their 50s.
UPDATE: The two divers who died at Aliwal Shoal at Umkomaas on Wednesday morning, 18 June are believed to be technical divers who were on a mission to recover a camera at a depth of 58 metres, which fell from a survey ship last week.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to the incident at Umkomaas beach at about 11.45am.
”On arrival they found that a man and woman, believed to be in their 50s, had lost their lives, following the incident. Despite all efforts to resuscitate both patients, there was nothing else paramedics could do for them,”said Netcare 911 media liaison, Santi Steinmann.
Exact detail to the cause of the incident and preceding events are unknown at this stage and will remain the subject of a investigation. Representatives of the dive charter and police are still on the beach. Updates to follow.
