Both Wheels on Waves and The View Boutique bagged Durban Tourism Business awards at the event, held at the ICC.

The awards paid tribute to the entrepreneurs, accommodation establishments, tour operators, filmmakers, event organisers and tourism pioneers who in their own way strengthen South Africa as a tourism destination.

eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba highlighted the critical role tourism plays in driving economic development, creating employment opportunities, and attracting investment to the City.

“The Durban Tourism Business Awards celebrate the businesses and individuals whose hard work, creativity, and commitment continue to elevate Durban’s tourism offering. Their achievements not only enhance the visitor experience but also contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and the positioning of Durban as a destination of choice,” said Xaba.

A total of 401 entries were received, marking the highest number since the programme’s inception.

The View Boutique Hotel in Doonside was awarded in the “Accommodation Non-Hotel” category, earning top honours among stiff competition.

The View Boutique general manager, Dylan Lategan, proudly shows its tourism awards alongside Stanley Sibisi.

“This achievement is a reflection of the passion, dedication, and commitment of our entire team. To be recognised by industry experts and awarded first place is an incredible honour. We are proud to represent Amanzimtoti and the Sapphire Coast Tourism on a provincial stage,” said general manager Dylan Lategan.

Another awardee from Amanzimtoti was Wheels on Waves, an NPO run by father and son duo, Wesley and Reece Smith, who champion accessibility for the disabled at Amanzimtoti Main Beach.

Reece received special recognition for his contributions as part of Wheels on Waves in championing inclusivity. He won an exceptional achievement award in the product owners with disabilities category.
