Athlone Park family warns of blue light ‘cops’

Suspicions alerted as five men surround property after dark on Friday night

AN Athlone Park family warns residents to be wary of a potential new crime method, after they were approached at home by five men posing as policemen on Friday night.
The home-owner was alerted to the presence of five well-dressed men when two of them made a noise at the property’s gate at about 7.30pm.
When she looked through a window, she noticed the plain-clothed men along her boundary – two at the gate, another two surveying the fence line and another man stationed further back. One was wearing a pink shirt.

“I was startled to see their white car with its blue light activated,” she said. “They told me to come to the gate but something told me not to.”
When she refused and asked what they wanted, they indicated they were Gauteng police and were looking for someone named Alex. “When I told them there wasn’t any such person as that, they got into their car and sped off.”

She said they hadn’t parked in her driveway, but instead parallel to the road, making for a quick escape. She alerted CCPO and her security service provider.
