Headway open day spotlight on diabetes

Nursing sisters from the Life Westville Hospital will also be in attendance to provide blood sugar and blood pressure testing.

HEADWAY-Natal hosts an open day with the spotlight on diabetes on Friday, 22 August from 10am until 11.30am at their offices at 11 Menston Road, Westville.

The invitation is open to the community, families and patients to visit for a tour of Headway and to attend a talk on diabetes by dietician Alexandra Kirkman.

Nursing sisters from the Life Westville Hospital will also be in attendance to provide blood sugar and blood pressure testing. There will be no charge for this day.

It is estimated that about 3.56 million South Africans – about 6% of the population – suffers from diabetes and another five million have pre-diabetes. Through Alex’s talk, you’ll learn more about diabetes, its types, causes, how it is diagnosed and managed and how it impacts one’s health.

Call Nicola at Headway on 031-266-2709/13 or headway@dbn.stormnet.co.za for more details.

Also on this day the charity shop, book shop, sewing display and coffee bar will be open to browse and enjoy.
