Police make 19 arrests

Five people were arrested for shoplifting.

TOTI police secured a number of arrests and convictions.
According to communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy, 19 arrests were made for various offences.

One person was nabbed for residential housebreaking, three for general theft; one for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one for driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

In other cases, one person was arrested for malicious injury to property; two for fraud; one for reckless and negligent driving; one for drunk driving; one for robbery; five for shoplifting; one for robbery; one for possession of alleged stolen property; and one for a traffic-related offence.

The police also helped secure three convictions.
Zethu Shezi (37) was sentenced for fraud and received a fine of R2,000 or six months’ imprisonment. In a drunk driving case, Golden Moses Mthsweni (30) was sentenced to either a fine of R500 or two months’ imprisonment.

In a third conviction, Mzamo Majola (21) was found smoking whoonga at Winklespruit railway station. He was arrested and charged with possession of one straw of whoonga. He was sentenced to a fine of R1,000 or three months’ imprisonment.
