Joint effort sees Egyptian geese cross freeway safely

Metro Police and Toti's Irene Pote helped the geese.

EDITOR – IT haunted me that an Egyptian goose had recently taken on a very busy freeway with all her young in a row. Unfortunately I didn’t  see what happened, yet it worried me for days.

On Tuesday, 30 September  I was driving on the freeway by the cement factory and low and behold, I spot the same thing about to happen. I put on my hazard lights, slowed down the traffic, nearly parked my car sideways and got the family across to the centre median.

I took off my boots and was about to run to the opposite freeway, where mom and clan was about to cross with a vengeance, when a Metro Police car with four men stopped, thinking something had happened.
I was about to either get arrested or get a huge fine, so I thought. Instead these guys crossed the road and halted the traffic on the other freeway for this family to cross.

Now that made my day, thank you Metro, you guys were awesome.
Many people hooted and waved, giving us a thumbs-up and a man was so impressed, he pulled over and shook our hands, touched, tears in his eyes. I’m very proud to say (although it was a really silly and dangerous thing to do) I’m very grateful that nobody got injured.
