ISIPINGO Beach beauty Lisanne Lazarus (18) was crowned Miss eThekwini at Durban’s City Hall on Saturday, 20 September.
“I am still overwhelmed, it hasn’t sunk in yet that I have won. When I was announced the winner, I think I was laughing more than anything else.”
Lisanne was one of 17 finalists, along with her sister, Latoya (21). “There is no rivalry between us, we model together, so we help each other out,” she said.
The day of the competition was a long one for the finalists which started at 10am with rehearsals and ended with the crowning late in the evening. “I am looking forward to my year as Durban’s ambassador. I want to focus on charity work, talks at schools and youth and women empowerment programmes.”
No stranger to pageants, Lisanne has entered four other competitions where she was either placed in the top five or three. With her first win now under her belt, her focus is on bigger and better things. “My next goal is the Miss SA pageant. I am living my dream.”
The bubbly teenager foresees a career in the entertainment industry and plans to study journalism and television presenting. But her feet are firmly on the ground and she describes herself as a family-orientated person. “My family is my pillar of strength.”
In her spare time she enjoys reading and keeping up-to-date with happenings in the media sphere. Multi-talented, she also played golf and represented KZN, but gave it up to concentrate on her matric year at Kingsway High School last year.
