THE Brad Cox sponsored trophy mixed drawn singles competition got underway on Saturday at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).
The women did well on the first day, and going through to the next round are Mardi Dovale, Heather Brown, Herman van Zyl, Nita Meumann, Michelle Pitchers, Maggie Roberts and Adie Fuller.
On Sunday the men fared better and Peter Barnes, Greg McLeod, Marion Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Vince Phaal, Doreen Salmond and Neville Roscoe won their groups. Spectators enjoyed some intriguing match ups. So the next round will be interesting with seven women and seven men. Check the board for the dates. Thanks to bar and kitchen staff who worked hard throughout the busy weekend.
At TGIF the 100 board was won by Robyn Hutton. Frank Roden’s tab came up in the attendance draw, but as he was not present, next week’s draw will be worth R150. Birthday girl Tanya Hawthorn drew the envelope in the key draw, but sadly it was not many happy returns for her, as her key did not fit.
On Friday, 14 November, keys will be drawn until there is a winner, as the prize limit has been reached. Buy tickets early – they are going like hot cakes. To add to the party atmosphere, Greg McLeod will provide live music.
In the women’s double-up 2-4-2, the winners were Bobby Stewart, Liz Morgan-Davies, Meryl Hambley and Nicky Stirzaker; and the runners-up were Heather Brown, Sue Welch and Marilyn Thiart. The second session went to Doreen Salmond, Nita Meumann, Yvonne Wright and Jackie Holdrick.
In the men’s drawn 2-4-2, Coy Schrauwen and Barry Buckland came first, with Dave Kemp and Gert Richter in second place. Second session went to Colin Coetzee and Jeff van Belkum.
The women’s drawn trips teams are on the board. This has been carded for 22 November. The men’s drawn fours competition gets underway on 15 November. Remember it is big chicks on 16 November. Don’t forget to add your name to the list for the potjie day on 30 November, to either cook or play bowls.
The last quiz evening of 2014 will be on Wednesday, 19 November. Quiz master Greg McLeod will test your knowledge, so go along and join in the fun.
Many happy returns go to ‘birthday boys’ Mark Brodie, Robert Green and Gert Coppenhagen this week. Get well soon to all members who are not too well.
